WhatsApp’s latest multi-device feature is causing a problem
for some users and group admins with accessing older messages when using the app
on a device other than their smart phone. It is assumed that the company is
likely assuring security in this way, so that users can access older
conversations only if they are using the app on their phones.
The multi-device feature is a valuable addition, as it provides an easier way for sharing information like large documents and files across multiple devices. The feature is especially useful for those whose work is mostly desktop-intensive.
However, the inability to access chats and other data past a
certain timeline is causing hinderance while using the multi-device feature.
In case of the problem being a system bug, it is expected to
be fixed soon. However, if this is a deliberate decision taken by WhatsApp,
then it is likely going to ignite a debate.
For now, WhatsApp has only suggested users to separately
install the WhatsApp software on their desktop if they wish to view old
messages. This too, however, doesn’t seem to be working, unfortunately.
