When you think of a factory, you might not be thinking about cutting edge technologies. Furthermore, chances are you also are envisioning a lot of smog from smokestacks polluting into our already distressed environment. This preconceived notion is for good reason as many out of date factory models do not lend to the sustainability needed to chart out a path forward for the future manufacturing accounts for a massive 54% of energy consumption worldwide - all of this also is including a full 20% of the world’s emissions. If we know better as a society, it’s time to step up and do better. There is hope for the future of factories. How? They will first need to evaluate opportunities for disruption. Factories can do so by assessing their current maturity level, and plan and execute on this strategy. Lastly, they will need to be able to learn to determine their transformation success.
