Life has changed for many of us during this pandemic. New ways to work and play and learn have all been tried and tested. Lots of life has been lived through screens virtually which is the safest way to conduct conversations during a pandemic. But this may also be the reason why plastic surgeons have seen an increase in cosmetic procedures and surgeries from people who want to update or enhance their appearances. Is it because we have to stare at ourselves on a screen more? Maybe, but you can see on this chart from Health Champion that many cosmetic surgeries have been on the rise over the last ten years.
These procedures include a broad range of different operations from breast augmentation, eyelid lifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, facial rejuvenation, nose jobs, lip augmentation and more. It is interesting to see that at the start of this data in 2011, breast augmentation was the top cosmetic procedure with 307,180 electing to enhance their chests. In 2020 that number would drop to the 5th spot with 193,073 people getting that surgery. The focus has seemed to trend more toward facial surgeries in 2020 with Rhinoplasty being in the number 1 spot followed by eyelid surgery, facelifts and liposuction.
