Apple introduced its Apple Maps review functionality in iOS
14, and its access is limited to users in the US. Some new additions can now be
seen in the functionality by US users, in the Apple Maps app in iOS 14 and
iOS 15.
New options include the ability to give a thumbs up or
thumbs down for most locations. By tapping on the new icon, a secondary
interface appears where users can provide ratings for a number of categories
like products, customer service, food, atmosphere, etc. based on the location
being reviewed.
Users can also upload photos of the location to the Apple
Maps app, which would be added to the maps listing.
For now, the Apple Maps native rating system appears next to the Yelp ratings, but it is likely that Apple would replace Yelp and TripAdvisor integrations, once it builds up its database of ratings.
Although the Apple Maps review functionality is available to
users in the US only, the new rating option has been tested by the company in other
countries like the UK and Australia for some time now.
