You must have heard about the most visited islands of the world such as Maldives, Greenland, Iceland, Bali, etc. But, do you ever wondered how many islands in total are there in the world? This might be to your surprise that there are nearly two thousand islands in the world’s ocean.

Region-wise, North American Islands dominate with 32 out of 100 biggest islands in the region. Whereas, 28 are in Asia and 14 in Europe.
With the word “Island”, all we think about is s sunny beach with turquoise water and white sand. The largest island in the world is Greenland which is nearly thrice the size of the second-largest island i.e., New Guinea. Greenland is huge enough to fit in nearly 408 Guadalcanal islands within it.
On the other hand, in terms of population, the biggest island is Java – home to 141 million people. This population count accounts for more than a thousand people living per square kilometer.
