After experiencing a decline in its popularity due to tough
competition with other social apps, Clubhouse is trying to get back in the game.
The social company recently announced its partnership with TED, with which it
aims to provide TED content featuring thought leaders and experts to its users.
TED’s official Clubhouse club is hosting a series of rooms,
which will be initiated by popular TED speaker and New York Times bestselling
author A. J. Jacobs along with Clubhouse’s creator and creative strategist Mir
Harris.
“The room builds upon an idea shared in a TED Talk, and book by Jacobs, and invites notable guests and the Clubhouse community to come together to “thank the unsung heroes of our lives”,” Clubhouse explains. The company also added that it will announce additional rooms in the coming weeks.
Through this partnership, Clubhouse is making use of popular
broadcasters, who've gained recognition through the TED Talks series, to boost the
app’s engagement.
It has also been revealed that the partnership between TED
and Clubhouse was initiated after Kelly Stoetzel, former head of conferences
and speaker curation at TED, was hired by Clubhouse as part of its talent
sourcing team in May.
Clubhouse’s downloads have dropped considerably since the
early days of its popularity, but the app might be able to gather its users
back with a more solid content line-up now. However, Twitter and Facebook will
still be giving Clubhouse a tough time with their own audio social talent
rosters, and we aren’t sure if Clubhouse will be able to keep up with the
competition long enough.
