The National Center for Learning Disabilities states that every one in five children in the United States have a learning or attention disability. Every child deserves equal opportunities to thrive; that is why it is so important to promote understanding of the characteristics, qualities, and challenges that each disability poses.
This infographic examines each of the seven learning disabilities recognized by the Learning Disabilities and provides key examples to distinguish them. For example, dyslexia affects a person’s ability to read, dysgraphia affects a person’s ability to write, and dyscalculia affects a person’s ability to comprehend math. Auditory processing disorder affects the understanding of the meaning attached to words and sounds. Nonverbal learning disorder affects the perception of nonverbal behaviors and social cues. Learning disabilities are not an indication of how intelligent or successful someone is, but rather it just means that they interpret learning material, social situations, and environments in unique ways.
