Twitter shared its plans related to its new feature Super
Follow and the new tipping options. The features are meant to serve as monetizing
tools for users who can use them by offering locked, exclusive content to
paying members.
Reverse engineering expert, Jane Manchun Wong, recently
discovered the new Twitter profile layouts, which have both the new options,
within the back-end code of the Twitter app.
The profile shows the tipping option displayed with a button, with which users can accept fan/follower donations directly on their profile. The Super Follow option is displayed in two ways: it either shows right next to the Follow button or replaces the Follow button.
Therefore, it looks like Twitter
is still trying out various ways to incorporate the new profile layout and will
soon roll it out for its users.
The Super Follow option was first
previewed at Twitter’s Analyst Day in February, alongside a variety of other options
allowing users to incentivize paying subscribers with various add-on tools.
The whole idea behind these
monetization tools is to promote frequent tweeting by top users, while also
incentivizing them to increase reliance on the app. Of course, as a result, the
overall user engagement and time spent on the app will rise up, while the
platform’s functionality will also enhance with the new eCommerce and
newsletter tools, and other functions.
