According to the reports, Apple is all ready to send letters to all the artists and in the letters, the tech giant has claimed that Apple Music pays one cent per stream that is almost twice as much as Spotify pays to its artists. A lot of the streaming services are trying to be generous for the artists since the global pandemic of Covid-19 has ruined all the schedules for concerts, live shows, etc. For the same concern, Apple has been reported to invest recently in UnitedMasters which is an independent music platform for artists.
Despite paying more to the artists than Spotify, Apple still lags behind in terms of overall revenue since Spotify has a significantly larger user base. As of June 2019, Apple Music has over 60 million users however, the company has not updated its number of current subscribers in two years. On the other hand, Spotify soars over the number of subscribers with over 150 million paid users along with 200 million more people using the ad-free tier.
Several artists debate over increasing the pay as not the entire cent goes into the pocket of the artist itself but only a small fraction does since it is divided among all the right holders including, distributors, publishers, and labels etc.
