WhatsApp is bringing an update to its Archived Chats
feature, which is going to fix one of the drawbacks with this feature. Previously,
once you would archive a chat, any time a new message would come, the archived
chat would appear back on your WhatsApp home screen. According to news reports,
this would no longer happen as WhatsApp won’t allow the unarchiving of archived
chats now.
Apparently, now any time a new message arrives, the chat will remain archived instead of getting automatically unarchived. Since users would still like to be notified about any new messages that they receive in their archived chats, WhatsApp has already got a fix for that: a message count will be displayed for archived chats the same way it does for regular chats on the app’s home screen.
The message count for archived chats will be displayed on
the top of the home screen, indicating unread messages in the archived box that
you may want to reply to.
Although the update hasn’t been officially released as it is
under testing, it is expected to be available for WhatsApp beta for Android
soon. Moreover, once released, the feature will not be updated by default, meaning
that it will be up to the users to activate it or not.
