When Twitter first launched its version of Stories called Fleets,
the feature was simple with no additional tools or effects, unlike what
Instagram or Snapchat offer with Stories. However, Twitter recently decided to
add a new option to Fleets called Twemoji stickers, available to users
in Japan only for now.
In the Fleets composer, a new stickers tray can be found by
tapping on the smiley face icon. You can then use the search option to look for
the sticker of your choice to add to your photo or video. With the Twemoji
stickers, you can express your feelings or mood.
It looks like Twitter would consider bringing more of such visual tools to Fleets in order to expand the feature, which will help increase user engagement. Since other social platforms have already enhanced their Stories feature, it is likely that Twitter would do the same.
Moreover, Twitter acquired Chroma Labs last year, which is
the team behind an app called Chroma Stories that offers a variety of
attractive frames and filters for Stories content. Therefore, Twitter will perhaps
make use of those tools for Fleets.
In addition to the Twemoji stickers, Twitter is also integrating
its new audio Spaces into Fleets, which is currently in the beta testing stage.
For users with access to the new option, an audio Space from the Fleets
composer options can be created by sliding the function bar across to 'Space'.
While Fleets has an important placement on Twitter itself, we
still can’t tell if the feature will receive greater attention in the future and
be able to compete with the Stories feature of other social platforms. We can
only wait and see what other interesting options Twitter could bring to Fleets,
and whether that will take the feature to the next level.
