As the AstraZeneca vaccine was suspended in various European countries due to the controversy that linked the vaccine with blood clotting in various people. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) have not found a clear link between the two however, the agency does acknowledge that there could be a possibility of a link between the vaccine and rare blood clot cases associated with low levels of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia). But, since no direct link has yet discovered, EMA suggests this possibility be further investigated.
Around 20 million people were vaccinated out of which only 7 cases were found having blood clots in various vessels whereas 18 CVST cases were found. Due to the very small ratio, EMA said that the benefit of the AstraZeneca vaccine overtakes the chances of side effects.
With that been said, numerous European countries have resumed the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine with a few changed health and safety warnings. According to the infographic below, European countries have already been lagging behind the Covid-19 vaccination rate and thus cannot afford more hindrance. As per the graphic, the EU had only administered 12 vaccine shots per 100 individuals by March 17.
