WhatsApp updated its privacy policy some time back and is now informing users about the consequences of not accepting this policy. According to an FAQ on WhatsApp’s website, as a result of not accepting the policy, WhatsApp’s functionality will become more limited and users will no longer be able to send or read messages from the app. Moreover, while users will be able to continue receiving calls and notifications, this will be possible only for a short period of time, about a few weeks.
WhatsApp’s updated privacy policy evoked controversy among a lot of users who have been resistant to having their data shared with Facebook, although WhatsApp has already made it clear that messages exchanged between users on are end-to-end encrypted, meaning that only the recipients can see them. According to WhatsApp, only the content sent to businesses, which may be stored on Facebook servers and used for advertising is what WhatsApp intends to share with its parent company.
Because of the persistent objections presented by users, WhatsApp
has decided to delay the introduction of its new privacy policy, which was
originally due to go into effect on February 8th. The policy will
now go into effect on May 15th.
