It is no news that the possibility of malware surfacing on popular stores like Google Play is still very much intact. The cases of applications appearing as malware after being installed over a million times have surfaced multiple times in the history of Google Play. Similarly, this time too, Google Play was unable to detect malware striving in its very own store that goes by the name of Barcode Scanner.
The initial detection of bogus activities by the Barcode application was carried out by the famous company Malwarebytes. Upon research, the company found out that the main culprit was the latest update that led the user to a website representing scary content. The application turned malware came out as a surprise for many as its previous versions never posed as a threat to the phones.
