Last year in particular, a lot of people turned to gaming and
movies as a source of entertainment during the lockdowns. Sensory Tower, a
company that provides insights into the global app economy shared statistics of
the top-most downloaded and grossing games between January 2020 and January 2021.
The games that made it to the list included Join Clash 3D as
the number one most downloaded game. It is produced by Supersonic Studios and
had about 27 million downloads. The game was most commonly installed in India
and Indonesia.
Among Us made it to the list as the second most downloaded
game, although it observed a drop in downloads rate by 83 million since
September. It was downloaded the most in the US and Brazil.
Rest of the games that were included in the top 5 category
were DOP 2 and Sushi Roll 3D from Say Games, and Project Makeover from
Bubblegum Games.
While these games were not the most grossing ones, they were
the best and most downloaded ones in January. Among the games that managed to
collect the most revenue in the gaming world in the month of January included Honor
of Kings from Tencent with a total revenue of $267.3 million, PUBG Mobile with
a total revenue worth more than $259 million, Fate/Grand Order from Sony’s Aniplex,
Genshin Impact from miHoYo and Roblox from Roblox Corporation which generated a
revenue of almost $153.4 million.
In addition to that, Professional Baseball Spirits A by
Konami had their best month ever by collecting a revenue worth $112.5 million,
which is thrice the increase since January 2020.
All these games are by far the most downloaded and grossing
ones within the gaming community, but with new games being constantly rolled
out by companies, these games are not guaranteed to have their positions
maintained.
