Apple is bringing a bunch of new emojis, which are part of
the Unicode Consortium’s Emoji 13.1 version, with the release of iOS 14.5. The
new emoji additions include more skin tone options for some of the most popular
emojis, new smiley faces and hearts. Some changes are also made to already
existing iOS emojis.
Emojis that have new skin tone options include the “Couples Kissing” and “Couples with Heart” ones. One very noticeable and unique change is that of the bearded emoji. In addition to the neutral “Person:Beard”, there is also a “Man:Beard” and “Woman:Beard” now.
The new smiley faces include the “Exhaling Face,” “Face with
Spiral Eyes,” and “Face in Clouds.” In the Hearts category, there is “Heart on
Fire” and “Mending Heart.”
Changes to existing emojis include a newly added helmet to
the rock-climbing emoji, a generic syringe emoji in place of the one filled
with blood, and AirPods Max instead of the regular headphones. Replacing headphones
with AirPods Max is one of Apple’s attempts to add its own products into its
emoji set, which is like free product placement, such as how the smartphone
emoji looks quite like an iPhone.
The new Apple emoji set will be part of iOS 14.5 beta.
