The different variants of the Covid-19 virus possess different risks. We all were familiar with the UK variant of the virus, which had greater risks to human health. However, according to Matt Hancock, the British Health Secretary, the recently identified variant of the Coronavirus in South Africa is far riskier and likely to cause even more serious health infections in humans than the UK variant.
He also reported to the BBC that this is an extremely worrying situation and due to this reason they had banned all the flights from South Africa. He stated the situation as a “significant problem”.
Though the world is about to get the vaccines against the virus, let’s hope that the vaccines developed are also effective against this newly identified South African variant of the virus.
