Amphetamine is an application that keeps the Macs from sleeping. The app is completely free to download and use for the users and is available in the Mac App Store since 2014 with more than 432,000 downloads. The keep-awake app is one of the highest-rated applications on the Mac App Store, which was alleged by Apple for violating App Store Guidelines in 2020. According to the Amphetamine’s developer, William Gustafson, the app was threatened by Apple for the removal by January 21st, 2021, from the Mac App Store.
Whereas, as per Apple, the keep-awake application promotes the use of drugs which is clearly against the guidelines set by the Mac App Store. Moreover, the representative from Apple reportedly said to the company that your name and the logo both indicate the controlled substances, pills.
In response, Gustafson presented his point that Amphetamine in no way encourages the consumption of illegal drugs because Amphetamine itself is legal. He also added, just the way Amphetamine keeps a person from sleeping, the app Amphetamine also keeps your machine awake.
Gustafson made all the efforts to defend the company and filed an appeal. Furthermore, he also set up a petition that gained 500 signs, and within very little time, he announced via Twitter that the App Review Board looked into the matter and allowed the application to stay on the Mac App Store.
