A large number of America’s Far-Rights shift to encrypted messengers

A free speech platform and a social media application, Parler was banned from Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store after supporting the riot on USA’s capitol. Moreover, the company also refused to incorporate moderation rules in order to avoid the hate speeches and spread of false information that could in any way encourage violent attacks in the future.
However, we are uncertain if Parler would bother implementing proper moderation rules and reapply to be in the Play Store and App Store. In fact, a conversation with right-wing commentator and Parler’s investing indicated that the company might shut down permanently in the coming years. Surprisingly, the company garnered millions of users that mostly included conservatives in a relatively less span. Data from previous weeks reveals that some encrypted messenger platforms saw a noticeable influx in the number of new users, possibly the Parler users, who are now in search of more private platforms after the app got defunct.

Since privacy is the foremost priority of users these days, many of the population have started to switch to different messengers that promise better security and encryption. The infographic below shows the Far-Right addition in different social messaging apps between Jan 5th to Jan 10th (the dates that include both the Capitol riots and termination of Parler from major app stores). According to the chart, the Signal application saw an incredible boost in the number of users, i.e., 677 percent within five days, followed by CloutHub with a 472 percent increase. Other encrypted messaging platforms include MeWe, Telegram, and Rumble, with large increases of 244, 146, and 144 percent, respectively.
