As the dire changes from climate change loom, many local and federal governments as well as businesses are trying to do more to save energy, reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, and promote renewable energy. When it comes to the United States, many cities have taken it upon themselves to accomplish these tasks and become a greener city for their citizens and the world. Which cities in the U.S. have done the best job of accomplishing this goal?
The team at Solar Energy Insights sought the answer to this question using data from the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s 2019 City Clean Energy Scorecard. They scored 75 of the largest cities in the country on a variety of policy metrics broken down into the following main categories: local government, community-wide initiatives, building policies, energy and water utilities, and transportation policies. Each metric was assigned a score based on its importance to clean energy progress, for a total of 100. The highest scoring city only earned 77.5 points, can you guess which city it was?
