Across America, cigarette smoking is undoubtedly a very serious program. According to data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there are more than 480,000 deaths related to smoking each year. Due to this, smoking has become the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States. It's been estimated that 34.2 million people in America smoke, which amounts to more than 13% of the adult population across the country. Since 2005, smoking rates in the United States have declined by nearly 21%, yet the smoking rates among cities and states can still vary. According to the data, it's Detroit, Michigan that has the highest rate of smoker at 29.2% of the adult population. Also worth nothing is that five of the top ten cities can all be found in Ohio.
