On the day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks nearly 3,000 lives were lost, but how many more have been lost since that day due to health issues that have been linked to the attack? The short answer is, a lot! This infographic shares the long answer as it looks at the health issues that have become prevalent among first responders and survivors of the attack, as well as the number of people that have passed away from these health issues. One section is dedicated to the World Trade Center Health Program and its enrollment numbers. Of the more than 105k people enrolled, 3.5k are now deceased from their related illness. That’s more than the actual day of the attack, and unfortunately that number will only continue to grow as time goes on. The WTC Health Program was even extended through 2090 as health professionals believe these health issues will plague the survivors, and potentially even their children, for decades to come.
