Amazon is finally adding MacOS to its AWS cloud, which means that developers will be creating apps for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other Apple devices on AWS.
This is an important news to developers as with a big cloud provider, they will be able to run Xcode and Swift development tools in the cloud, moving away from having to maintain and patch dedicated Mac machines.
Amazon is using Apple’s Intel-powered Mac mini computers for its cloud version of macOS. Intel’s 8th Gen Core i7 processor and 32GB of RAM are part of each Mac mini computer. Developers can choose from macOS Mojave and macOS Catalina. The Big Sur support will also be introduced soon and Amazon is also expected to provide M1-powered devices in 2021.
Mac instances will be available today in the US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Europe (Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Singapore) AWS regions. Amazon will be revealing more details at its re:Invent event.
