China has taken a major action against content related to pornography, prostitution, gambling and violence by removing 105 apps from its app stores, most of which are Chinese. One of these banned apps is the US based travel app called TripAdvisor.
The Cyberspace Administration of China explained that all of the removed apps violated one of three cyber-laws. Moreover, authorities said the ban was in response to content that the public found offensive. It is, however, still uncertain why exactly TripAdvisor has been banned.
BBC has reached out to the firm for a response, but hasn’t received any yet.
Tensions between the US and China over cyberspace have increased over the past few months when the Trump Administration decided to ban TikTok. Chinese authorities called it an act of bullying and said that they would take "necessary measures" to protect the interests of Chinese companies.
