According to PUBG Corporation, PUBG Mobile is coming back to India, the world’s second largest internet market, after being banned in the country. The game will make an appearance in a new avatar, called as PUBG Mobile India and has been especially created for users in India.
PUBG Corporation also added that it is planning to make an investment worth $100 million in India, along with parent firm KRAFTON. The purpose behind the investment is to cultivate the local video game, esports, entertainment, and IT industries ecosystems in the country. Moreover, it plans to recruit 100 employees in India.
PUBG was banned in India as a result of cybersecurity concerns, alongside more than 200 other apps that were linked to China, including TikTok.
In its latest statement, PUBG Corporation said, “privacy and security of Indian player data being a top priority for PUBG Corporation, the company will conduct regular audits and verifications on the storage systems holding Indian users’ personally identifiable information to reinforce security and ensure that their data is safely managed.”.
PUBG Mobile had managed to surpass over 50 million monthly active users in India before it got banned, which is a record no other mobile game could achieve in the country.
PUBG Corporation’s recent move could also be a meaningful precedence for other impacted apps to return to India. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the Indian Government has approved PUBG Corporation’s decision. Moreover, the company hasn’t revealed when exactly it plans to release the title in India.
