Netflix is launching a programmed linear content channel in France called Netflix Direct. The new channel will provide Netflix streaming subscribers content from Netflix’s existing streaming library in a linear format, almost like how cable and broadcast TV stations do.
The purpose behind offering this functionality is to help users spend lesser time and mental effort in deciding what they want to watch and also kind of surprise them with new and different content.
Netflix explained the reason why it decided to launch the service in France, saying that traditional TV is hugely popular in the country, and Netflix has about 9 million subscribers there.
Netflix Direct has already rolled out to some parts of France and will expand to more parts in the country next month.
