The usage of social media is only expanding with time and since we are all still confined to our homes, more teenagers and young people would be using Instagram to connect with others. And while there is a positive experience generally of being able to stay connected during lockdown conditions, negative factors of social media need to be taken seriously.
Social media is full of online bullies, who usually make innocent, young people their targets. Cyberbullying is not only a bad way to behave, but it is also officially a crime. Hence, it is important to know how to keep an eye out for yourself. Instagram has introduced several strategies to take a stand against such cyberbullies.
For one, blocking is perhaps the most common feature on almost every app to prevent unwanted messages, respond to harassment and more. Other than that, Instagram also allows you to mute other people's stories and posts, restrict them so their comments are not approved until you take action, and even set a comment filter.
The comment filter is the best of what Instagram has to offer. Cyberbullies usually victimise people openly by commenting on their posts. Using this filter, you can add specific keywords, and if anybody commenting on your post has those keywords in their comments, the comments will become disabled. The following infographic further elaborates on all these features of Instagram for a more positive experience of this widely used app.
