Japanese video game developer company, Capcom, experienced a ransomware hack due to which the hackers successfully stole confidential data of the company and its customers' personal information. The company said that the hacked information includes names, dates of birth, addresses, email addresses, passport information, phone numbers, and a lot more. The hackers not only stole the customers' data but also the company's very private information regarding its games.
Capcom initially detected an issue in the servers on November 2nd and shared the attack's news on November 4th. However, after 8 days of the attack, the company announced to the public that its servers had been severely attacked and the personal data of about 350,000 individuals have been stolen.
The hackers also stole the data of the company's most famous game, "Resident Evil," and leaked the release date of its sequel "Resident Evil Village." Capcom has not yet verified the news of leakage of its game's release date, but the company is making dire efforts to catch the hackers. The company confirms that, luckily, no credit card information was stolen in the attack.
