Truckers are an integral part of our livelihood and economy. Without them we would have no transport for food, fuel and other vital products throughout our country. However, truck safety has increasingly become a topic of debate. Although some companies want to push their drivers to the limit to deliver the most goods in the shortest amount of time, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has set up regulations to stop driver fatigue and distraction that lead to most truck accidents. In 2017 alone truck crashes claimed the lives of 4,761 people and injured tens of thousands more. In a tractor trailer accident over 70% of those who are killed are occupants in other cars.
A team at Your Lawyer analyzed data from the United States Department of Transportation and came up with this map that shows the U.S. counties with the deadliest truck crashes per 100,000 people between 2014 and 2018.
