An Overview of U.S. Elections: Number of Days Till the Final Result

The entire world has its eyes on the U.S. Election 2020, as both the Republican and Democratic parties are up close to have the U.S. presidency to their name. It has not always been the case that the U.S. elections have kept the voters waiting for so long. This time in the 2020 U.S. elections, the waiting has been the second-longest in the history of the United States. Elections in the United States mostly had results coming in later on the election day.

This has always been the case in elections where the margin between two of the top candidates was very high. One such election was that of 1972 when Richard Nixon had won the presidency. As we witness and await the U.S. Elections 2020 results, we can see that it is a very close race between both the Democratic and Republican parties. The margin is very low.

At one point in the history of the U.S. elections,  a recount had taken place. This was back in the 2000 elections of the United States when it was a clear win for the Democratic candidate, Al Gore. The recount took place in Florida and Al Gore's win was replaced by Bush. The infographic below shows how many days it took for the unsuccessful candidate to concede in the U.S. elections. U.S. elections have been listed all the way from 1968 to 2020.
