About 19 million women in America live in areas without reasonable access to a full range of birth control options. These areas are known as “contraceptive deserts”, and many women living in these deserts are greatly in need of publicly funded birth control. While some states have a small percentage of women in need living in contraceptive deserts, others are not so lucky.
The research team at YourLawyer.com created an infographic titled States With The Best And Worst Birth Control Access Across America to see which states fared best. At the number 1 spot is Illinois. With 180 health centers for its 2,805,470 women between the ages of 13-44, only 15.39% of women in need live in contraceptive deserts. Arizona comes in last place. While the state does have 101 health centers for its 1,349,610 women of reproductive age, 33.60% of women in need in the state live in contraceptive deserts.
