Ten days ago, one of the most popular social media app TikTok was blocked in Pakistan by the country’s telecommunication authorities because of the spread of indecent videos. However, as per the authorities, TikTok has promised to suspend every account that creates and makes such immoral videos viral over the internet. Not to forget, the company failed to ban such accounts in the first place, resulting in shutting off the app completely nationwide.
A spokesperson from Pakistan Telecommunication Authorities said that TikTok had more than 20 million active users monthly from Pakistan only. Furthermore, an analytic company SensorTower confirmed that TikTok was listed as the third-most downloaded app in Pakistan prior to the ban led by WhatsApp and Facebook in the first and second places.
ByteDance’s app TikTok has gained enormous popularity in an extremely less time span all over the world. The app is famous for letting users create short, entertaining videos and share them with their followers. Unfortunately, the company faced controversies with various countries in terms of cybersecurity issues.
PTA says that they were open to clear out things with TikTok and will lift the ban once the company ensures the blocking of accounts that are responsible for the creation and spread of inappropriate content that is strictly against the country’s laws and religious boundaries.
