The app was given multiple warning and months-long deadline in order to comply with all the instructions by the Pakistani government; however, the company failed to do so and hence got banned. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority received tons of complaints against the types of short videos from TikTok being circulated over the internet that included people of every age, including children as well.
The religion and culture of Pakistan strictly prohibit the type of salacious content that could pollute the minds of a younger generation; hence the decision by PTA to block the app over the country is justified.
A few months ago, a neighboring country, India banned TikTok and 57 other Chinese apps because of cybersecurity reasons. TikTok had 200 million active monthly users from India alone. TikTok’s future in the USA is also at severe risk due to similar cybersecurity concerns. India and the USA both firmly believe that the Chinese government is invading their national security through Indian and American users of TikTok. India however, didn’t think twice and blocked the app whereas, the USA has been making different arrangements.
