We are just a month away from the launch of the next generation of consoles. Sony’s PlayStation 5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X are lined up for the most anticipated release of next month. PlayStation and Xbox both have this crazy rivalry going on for years that divides the gamer fanbase. On paper, PlayStation is winning the battle but we cannot know for sure until the consoles are released.
A few weeks ago, Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media, which is
a big company in the gaming world. The most notable publisher is Bethesda Softworks,
a children company of ZeniMax Media. Bethesda Studios is very significant in
the gaming world. With such hit games like The Elder Scrolls, Fallout and DOOM,
it has made a name for itself over the years. Microsoft now owns its parent
company and is now showing a promising future for its console.
The acquisition of ZeniMax Media was valued at $7.5 billion
which is the second-biggest acquisition in the gaming world. Microsoft has also
announced the addition of the popular Bethesda titles included in the Xbox Game
Pass. Xbox Game Pass is a subscription service that allows you to stream-play
games. It is much like a Netflix for games.
This deal has shown a lot of promise and has put its competitor,
Sony and PlayStation, at the backfoot. Microsoft is more likely to make the
future Bethesda games Xbox and PC exclusive only just like PlayStation have
released exclusively over the years. This will hurt Sony but it is highly unlikely
it will do much damage as PlayStation has a vast library of exclusives on its
own. With the big publishers like Naughty Dog Inc. and Insomniac in Sony’s
grasp, Microsoft will still have to step up its game to increase its library.
In any case, the acquisition is a big game-changer for Xbox as it has turned many eyes over itself with this deal. People are constantly chattering about Microsoft and this can also mean that the potential sales of Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S can be boosted.
