Also, the civic conversations happening on Twitter are extremely crucial and confidential nowadays when elections are around the corner.
Twitter has changed its Civic Integrity Policy to enhances safety, and it mostly targets fake information spread on the platform regarding civic processes, voting information, and elections. Twitter users suggested that the information that is mostly disputed and is likely to create confusion or mislead the users must be posted with a more yet authentic context.
We heard:— Twitter Safety (@TwitterSafety) June 3, 2020
1⃣Twitter shouldn’t determine the truthfulness of Tweets
2⃣Twitter should provide context to help people make up their own minds in cases where the substance of a Tweet is disputed
Hence, our focus is on providing context, not fact-checking.
Twitter heard the voice and started working on the changes and will now add a label or permanently remove the posts that contain fake, misleading information, and false affiliations. However, this policy will be in work from September 17th, 2020.
