The coronavirus has caused chaos and put a halt to activities of all kind. Be it personal or financial, or even — crime. It's really tough to think that a global pandemic could result in something positive. But it has happened nonetheless. While there has been a reduction in air pollution, another positive thing to come out of the crisis has been low crime rates. This has been the case for many countries, including the United Kingdom.
This downfall in crime rates can be credited to lockdown measures. Not all sorts of crimes have gone down. For instance, drug offences become greater than before. This can make sense as drugs won't really involve moving around much, for many people out there. The crimes that have been limited to a very high extent are robberies and sexual harassment since they involve social interaction and moving around.
The infographic below compares and contrasts the recorded crime rate between 2019 and 2020 in England and Wales. The positive impact of COVID-19 can be clearly seen.
