How much have murder rates changed in the United States over the past decade? And where can the highest murder rates be found? Using information from the FBI’s annual report, Crime in the United States, the answer to these questions were sought out by the insights team at TruePeopleSearch.
They compared the murder and non-negligent manslaughter rates from 2010 and 2018 to see which 25 metropolitan statistical areas’ murder rates had increased the most, as well as the 25 metro areas with the largest decrease in the rate of murder and non-negligent manslaughter. One small area in Illinois was the clear front runner when it came to the largest increase in this rate. The metro area of Danville saw a 19.5 increase in their rate of murders for every 100,000 residents. This rate was just 1.3 back in 2010 but had skyrocketed to 20.8 by 2018. Were you surprised at any of the other metro areas that found themselves high up on this list?
