Forklifts are a great tool for heavy lifting and do a lot of
good in warehouses. When things need moving, you call forklifts because they
are one of the great inventions. However, as useful as they are, they are also
involved in a lot of crashes and accidents which makes them a two-edged weapon.
There are approximately more than a million active forklifts
in the United States. Among them, about 11 percent of the forklifts are
involved in some sort of accidents each year. There are organizations that make
rules and regulations to make a working environment as safe as possible.
The accidents happen for a lot of reasons whether it is the
forklift malfunction or a distracted operator. Every 6th workplace
death in the United States involves a forklift, which sums up to 85 annual
deaths involving forklifts.
There should be proper precautions and maybe even proper training
is given to the workers to operate forklifts. Other than that, there should
also be a reasonable penalty in a case of violating the rules set by OSHA –
this involves speeding, elevated loads, giving rides on forklifts and other violations.
