The novel coronavirus has toppled the excitement for the
start of the new decade. 2020 will be a year to remember and will go down the
history books because of the pandemic and the effect a single virus has had on a
global scale. Humanity has suffered but we put up a good fight and are still
fighting it thanks to the healthcare workers around the world.
Healthcare workers are our front-line protection from this
disease. They have worked day and night to find the cure and help the infected.
The lockdown hasn’t stopped these brave people to perform their duties amply. However,
healthcare workers have also paid the price of life while serving for the
betterment of mankind. Although there is no systematic global tracking of the
current active healthcare workers overlooking coronavirus and their deaths, an
estimated 7000 healthcare workers have lost their lives to coronavirus.
The estimation is made possible by analyzing available data
of more than 80 countries. Among these countries, Mexico has the highest rate
of fallen healthcare workers as the number reached to 1320 deaths due to
coronavirus. The country had a low testing rate compared to other countries and
there was also a shortage of PPE just after the outbreak. Healthcare workers
also took to the streets to protest for it.
The US is not far behind Mexico as it remains the second-highest
country to lose healthcare worker to the virus. It is also the second most corona-effected
country right now.
