Apple's much awaited September event for product launch took place, and the company announced its new Apple Watch Series 6, fourth generation iPad Air, new Apple One plan, and new software updates at the event. There was no mention of any of Apple's upcoming iPhones, however. The new iPhones are expected to be announced either later this month or in October.
The new Apple Watch Series 6 is priced at $399 and is expected to arrive on September 18. Some new additions to the Watch include the new Apple S6 silicon chip and a blood oxygen sensor. Along with that, Apple also announced its low-cost Apple Watch SE, which is priced at $279.
Some noticeable features of the Apple Watch Series 6 include a new Family Setup option, Fitness subscription, and Solo Loop. The Family Setup option helps families stay connected, despite any of the family members not owning an iPhone. A family tracking feature helps parents track their children's whereabouts. The new Fitness subscription is priced at $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year. It is designed for in-home fitness services, considering the ongoing pandemic. The Solo Loop is a single band made of stretchy silicon that comes in seven different colors and a variety of sizes.
The new fourth generation iPad Air comes with a 10.9-inch 2360×1640 resolution retina display and has a USB-C cable in place of the lightning port. The iPad features a Touch ID fingerprint sensor in its power button and a new 12-megapixel, 4K-capable rear camera. It also comes with Apple's new A14 Bionic chip, which features a 16-core neural engine to support apps that rely on machine learning and artificial intelligence. New colors are also introduced for the new iPad, including green and sky blue.
The eighth generation iPad has also been updated with an earlier A12 Bionic chip, hence improving its performance.
The new Apple One plan is a bundle of multiple subscriptions for TV, music, games, and iCloud storage. It comes in three versions: for individuals, for families, and lastly, the full package of Apple’s subscription services.
Apple's long-awaited software updates were scheduled for arrival today. The updates include iOS 14 for iPhones, iPadOS 14 for iPads, WatchOS 14 for Apple Watches, and tvOS14 for Apple TV boxes. The iOS 14 features new security and privacy options, an updated Maps, a redesigned Siri, and a new built-in tranlator app.
