You may have seen dogs attacking postal workers in digital content such as movies and in other videos. However, it is not entirely fiction and in fact, there are many postal workers in the United States that fall victim to dog attacks. In the year 2019 alone, as many as 5,803 postal employees were attacked by dogs.
Keeping in light the severity and high frequency of the attacks, safety measures have been taken by the US Postal Service. With the help of technology, apps have been created that inquire a consumer about the presence of dogs at their home. These apps also allow postal workers to be notified in the case of package pickups, whereby customers may have dogs at there homes.
Some other preventive measures include keeping dogs far away from the front door and from the mailbox. With a total of 777 dog attacks on postal workers, California ranked the top. Texas follows it, with a total of 491 attacks. To view and compare the statistics of other U.S. states, check out the infographic below.
