The clash between Instagram and TikTok has become apparent as TikTok has a massive number of active monthly users. Seeing the competition, Instagram has come up with a new feature for its stories, by the name of Instagram Reels.
Stories weren't an original Instagram feature either. Back in 2016, Instagram introduced stories for its users due to tough competition by Snapchat. Along with Instagram, since Whatsapp is also run by Facebook Inc., the stories feature eventually made it to Whatsapp as well as Facebook and Messenger.
Now repeating history, Instagram's new 'Instagram Reels' feature will enable users to not only record short 15-second videos with multiple clips but also let them play around with these videos. Users will be able to add a variety of audio and visual effects. Although the Whatsapp ones are actually called status updates, they act like stories since they disappear after 24 hours, similar to user stories on other social media platforms.
Facebook stories have now become such a popular feature that they have left Snapchat behind. This goes on to show that Facebook takes inspiration from its competitors and adds the features eventually to their own messaging and social media apps. The infographic below will show you how stories on various social media platforms are performing, in terms of the daily active users.
