In June 2019, an agreement between Huawei and Russia's largest telecom company, MTS, was signed. The agreement stated that a 5G network would be developed in Russia by 2020. Since then, Huawei has been investing heftily in Russia.
At a developer event in Russia six-months back, Huawei announced an investment of $10 million to enhance the Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) ecosystem in the country. Executives from Huawei Russian branches say that the Russian developers are welcomed whole-heartedly to contribute and participate in the ecological integration of Huawei, and in return, Huawei will continue to efforts and keep on investing for effective joint development.
The news rolled out in the morning today that Russia is all set to cope with China and its big tech company, Huawei, to work on 5G technologies. However, as per the Interfax news agency reports, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow has already started working on the development of 5G technologies.
