With a lot of things going on in the world, tires are one of
the few rare things to cross your mind but in fact, the tire companies are
making billions over billions in revenue. They keep you on the road and make
money hand over fist. There are a lot of famous tire companies – nationally as
well as internationally.
Recently, an American tire company, Goodyear, banned its
workers from wearing “Make America Great Again!” baseball caps. In retaliation
of this act from the famous tire company, President Trump took to Twitter and
asked everyone to boycott this company because they banned the MAGA hats. Further,
he also claimed that you can get better tires for far less than Goodyear.
Trump didn’t realize that the company was American and its
prominent competitors were foreign such as Bridgestone (Japanese), Michelin
(French), and Continental (German). Awkwardly, this also puts Trump at odds with
his “America first” policy. An oops moment for the president. Not only that,
but people came forward and pointed out that the limousine he travels in uses
Goodyear tires as well as vehicles from Secret Service.
The whole act started from a corporate training event at
Goodyear and an image about wearing a political attire was circulated. It seemed
that “Black Lives Matter” and LGBT+ pride clothing and merch were acceptable
but political merch such as MAGA fell under the company’s zero-tolerance
policy.
Goodyear tires made $15 billion in revenue last year ahead
of the German company, Continental, which put in $13 billion. However other two
competitors from France and Japan were way ahead of Goodyear tires as they made
$26 billion and $27 billion respectively.
