The world’s most populated countries, India and China, will
see a major population decline very rapidly in the coming years. Experts have
agreed that the world population will decrease in the future, but they don’t know
when, where or how fast the number will shrink.
According to the UN Population Division, the world
population may peak just after the middle of the century and then continue for
a rapid decline. This was proven by the stable population growth model however,
the models dealing with the decline of population looked very unstable.
With women’s access to education and contraception on the rise
in China and India, there will be a very low fertility level. The population
may decrease in both the countries by up to 25% by 2100. This theory is not
applicable for the African nations as researchers suggested that the population
in those countries will continue to grow and if this is the case, Nigeria will
become the second largest nation on Earth by 2094.
The US growth and decline model looked stable, and similar
situation was seen with Canada and Australia. Countries like Pakistan and
Indonesia will also see a slight decline in population by 2100.
