Solid waste management has been around as an issue since the beginning of the 90s, and of course, even before that. Although now it has surpassed even more in terms of mass, even back then it had created an air of consideration amongst environmentalists. Like in any other field, science was being looked at to come to the rescue for sorting out issues related to solid waste management. And thus with the help of data available at that time, the research began.
The organisation that came into being is known as the Environmental Research & Education Foundation (EREF), and it just celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019. The 25 years for the entity has been full of educational and research projects. The organisation has also played its part in using its valuable research findings to create policies regarding the improvement of waste management.
In the sector of education, EREF has programs governing scholarships, internships and electronic textbooks to spread awareness amongst students and introduce them to the field of solid waste management. Via this step, EREF expects that students will take as much interest in their eco-friendly mission as they do. To keep the students motivated, they have added findings and awards as well.
