Since the US Presidential Elections are just around the
corner, the Presidential campaigns are running at an all-time high. It is busy
out in the US and it’s a perfect time to discuss every presidential running
mate since the end of World War 2.
There have been 48 vice presidents since the US constitution
was first established and each of them supported the presidents in seeing
through the country affairs through wars and other crises. A president’s team
is crucial for success because it can make or break a president’s run. The vice
president is the second-in-command and holds a key significance at the Oval
Office.
Since World War 2, there have been 33 running mates – out of
which, nine have run for the Vice President more than once. Richard Nixon and
George H.W. Bush are the two candidates who served as president after being
vice presidents. Joe Biden could be the next in 2020 as he is running for
president this year.
The vice president is the first successor to the president
in a case where the president dies, resigns or is removed from the office. There
have been nine vice presidents who have ascended to a presidential position
throughout American history, three of which came after World War 2.
