Virtual reality has gained enormous popularity in earlier years, which has increased its demand. Oculus is a Facebook-owned VR company that develops VR headsets. Right now, users need a separate Oculus account to use the headsets; however, this support for a separate account will end in October 2020.
Later this year, you will have to sign in for the Oculus account through Facebook only. If you are already a Facebook member, then your Oculus account will be linked with it. But, if one doesn't already have an account, they can still use the headset normally till 2023. However, the older Oculus headsets with non-linked accounts will continue to work, but, some of the apps and games might stop functioning. Oculus used for business purposes will keep supporting a separate login process.
Furthermore, Oculus's devices will be released in the future would require login through Facebook, even if you already have a separate account. The latest version of the Oculus Quest headset is expected to be released this fall, and the login policy will be applied to it as well.
Facebook bought Oculus in 2014, and since then, it has been integrating Oculus' platform. Back in 2018, Facebook said that they have the authority to restrict spam accounts all across the platforms. As Facebook has already been facing criticism over targeted advertising, it is not planning to roll out new ads on the Oculus platform right now.
The new login policy eliminates the layer of separation between two platforms and forces each person to finally sign up to Facebook if they have not.
