5G is an upcoming internet technology that is faster and
more reliable than its predecessors. Currently, 5G technology has not been
commercialized, which is why it is not commonly seen, but, in a few months,
probably by the end of this year, the majority of the world would have switched
to this technology.
It took 12 years for the 3G networks to gain a billion users
after it was launched in the 2000s. At the same time, the 4G network grew three
times faster than the 3G network – mainly because by the time 4G was launched,
more people were aware of mobile networks and its capabilities. The 4G network
took only four years to gain a global reach of a billion users.
If this is the case, the 5G technology will follow the same
pattern and spread like wildfire across the world. The 5G adoption is estimated
to be even faster than 4G, which is not surprising to imagine because of the
anticipation of this technology. However, faster internet is not the only feat
5G has to offer, but it will be much more affordable with ease of deployment.
The AI and other automated technology will feel more generic and work much
faster because of this technology.
History has proven that new technology takes its time to
settle into society and for people to adopt it. Debit cards, smartphones,
online banking are examples of it where it took quite some time for these
technologies to become mainstream. However, history is also evident that people
have started to adopt the technology relatively quicker with the progression of
time.
The following infographic shows a few technologies and the
amount of time it took for them to take off.
