Big cities need to be smarter to sustain itself. The
environment, safety, utilities, transportation, and infrastructure need to be
in the top form to ensure the residents are living properly. With more people
moving into urban areas, aka megacities almost every week, the need for a smart city has become necessary.
There were only three megacities in 1975, namely, Tokyo, New
York, and Mexico City. However, that number has risen to 21 megacities present
today. As soon as 2025, the number of megacities is expected to reach 29, with
5 of them coming from Asia (Shenzhen, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Jakarta, and
Lahore) two of them coming from South America (Bogota and Lima) and one African
country (Kinshasa).
There has been a sudden shift in the increase of population
in urban areas, forcing the city planners, businesses, and governments to
vision a “smart” city. Please take a look at the following infographic as it
